Good luck...seriously

IntroductionI choose NYU because I absolutely love New York City. I did a summer program at Barnard College and fell in love with the city atmosphere/ nightlife. But NYU was very different. People should realize that NYU and NYC are two separate entities and when it comes down to it, NYC is a young ADULT city not a college town. Anyone who isn't extremely independant should shy away from this school.
Campus Life and Social LifeThe best...very little is good. Obviously there are a ton of clubs and bars but you need a lot of money and a solid fake (that still can be easily taken away). In terms of parties, you have to know the right people or you are screwed. Most "dorm" parties consist of ten people crammed into a tiny room playing guitar hero. Concerts are a ton of fun but require a lot of money, obviously. There are clubs but very few people actually get involved. Plus, the clubs are poorly run. I joined the student newspaper and the people were complete weirdos and kind of obnoxious. Anyways basically, weekends are unpredictable. You never even know who will be there on the weekend because many people go home to get a break from the craziness of NYC.

AcademicsAcademics--I would not even consider coming to NYU for anything but Tisch. All the other schools are way overrated and there is a ton of animosity between each specific college. I was in CAS and it was very impersonal. The professors are brilliant but pretty much considered "untouchables." I am a social science major and the classes weren't bad but they were typically lectures that were quite boring. If you want to be a liberal arts student I would recommend going to a small liberal arts school. NYU is overrated and to be honest, I've met more "average" students than smart ones.
Student BodyThe student body is lame. You have a ton of hipsters, but they are very closeminded and will not talk to you unless you are one of them. You have your New Jersey kids, your Long Island Japs--the typical people you would expect. But the majority of people are socially awkward. There are DEFINITELY more girls than boys so don't be fooled by the 60:40 ratio because many of the boys are gay.
In Closing...I would not recommend this school. The sad thing is, people told me NYU was perfect for me. Unfortunately, I just felt like a number more than anything else. The school is extremely impersonal and brings out the worst in people.
