Awesome School

Rating: 5/5 (1 ratings)
Introduction
I originally had never even planned to look at Vassar, but at a recruiting camp for lacrosse I met a coach who had just recruited one of my teammates the year before. Afraid that it was too artsy, I never even considered it too much, but after listening to the coach speak, the school clearly was pumping money into the athletic programs and the school doesn't necessarily revolve around the arts. There are so many activities here you can do whatever you please and not feel excluded. Though i wasn't artsy myself and was relatively jockish/preppish, the key here to get by is to be tolerant and really thats it. I have no trouble whatsoever making friends and i just accept what other people here bring to the table.

Campus Life and Social Life
With all of the work that teachers give, almost no one drinks on weekdays. Weekends typically start on thursdays but the drinking community may not begin drinking on thursdays, rather they just hang out later. The student population is great at 2500 students for classes, but hookups, which happen all the time, can get awkward when you party with the same people week in and week out. That might be the only complaint about this entire school if there is one, there really aren't enough girls for an ideal hookup scene. Another thing is that i'm sorry to say, but most of the girls here aren't great looking and for whatever reason the female athletes tend to be the better looking lot of what we have. The Mug is our on campus pub/dance floor which can be lame if there isnt enough people but can be totally awesome if there is. There are often parties at senior housing too which is always a good time.

Academics
THERE ARE NO TA'S HERE!!!!!!! every class is taught by a professor dedicated to teaching undergrads and they actually care about it too. the work load is heavy but it is possible to avoid readings as long as you understand them well enough for midterms and finals. Projects and papers though are numerous and can take up a rediculous amount of time. I myself do at least 2 hours of work every day 7 days a week outside of class, but in class time is short anyways. But most classes are really informative and thats why we came here anyways right?

Student Body
Granted, most kids here aren't mainstream. Many were those intelligent, quiet people that sat in the back of your AP english classes and aced all those papers. But, times are changing and the sutdent body seems to be getting a little more mainstream with each class, but not to the point where it becomes exactly like the social strata of high school. Most people here are liberal but with varying degrees of it.

In Closing...
Vassar is an amazing school that has everything you need to succeed and live basically right on campus. It saves your parents money when you don't go to clubs every weekend and you don't need to worry about designated driving. Sports programs are on the rise and should start to draw more school spirit soon. VASSAR IS AWESOME and i simply don't understand how my friends at other schools can hate it or dislike it and want to come home. I'm going to cherish these years as looooooong as i can.
