I have a really strong interest in MIT, but with my grades, i'm not sure if i can get admitted in. I'm going to be a senior in 08-09. What do you think my chances of getting into MIT is? My academic gpa non-weighted is 2.71 and my weighted one is 2.86. I know thats low, but I still want some insight on what you people think. The only AP class i've taken is AP chem and got a B in that. I plan on majoring in electrical engineering. Also, if i can't get in, im also interested in UCLA, UC irvine, and USC, but not as much as i'm interested in MIT.

MIT is suicide. it's 8+ hours for engineering students minimum and you'll be getting less hours of sleep than that.
your chances are low unlessyou absolutely kill the math sats and math2 and chem subject tests. otherwise your chances are better if u transfer into it.
but sorry dude if you can't manage at least a 3.5 in high school MIT will kill you in the first month. sorry but it really is the most difficult school to go to. ever.

MIT is looking for verbal, mathematical and scientifically driven students to inhabit their campus. As far as I can tell, your transcript will not be showing that you have a strong intrest in these fields of study.
MIT wants driven, hard working and brilliant students. Your GPA shows that school may have not been high on your priority list throughout high school. This will reflect poorly on your transcript.
I know the reason that you are interested in MIT is because of the unparalleled resources for the sciences and mathematics it has... I'm sorry to state that you will most likely not be admitted to MIT. MIT is very hard to gain admission to. Most students accepted have top grades, test scores and have won regional/national awards for their research in the math and sciences.
I would reccomend attending a community college and then transfering to MIT in you later years.
Make sure that this is the career that you want, and I bid you good luck.

Unless you win the noble peace prize no way. MIT only accepts about 30% of the valedictorian that apply. I agree with the previous posters. Go somewhere else and then try to transfer in when you get your grades up.
- kate10662 I agree with everyone! MIT is SUICIDE! I mean just to meet some of the minimum requirements, it's BRUTAL! I got in though! I'm not going!
- Jades41 I don't know how true this is, but my American History teacher told me he knew a student with a perfect SAT who didn't get in.
- shutthedoorbaby That's very probably shutthedoorbaby, MIT really looks for math, science, and verbal genius: requirements that include perfect SAT scores in addition to OTHER proof of your remarkable ability. MIT wants to know why you are better than all the other perfect SAT scorers, and chances are your reply will not be good enough.
